Prostate therapy now recommended by NICE

Wed, 05/02/2018

A new treatment for non-cancerous enlargement of the prostate has been recommended for use by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence in the United Kingdom. Prostate artery embolization blocks some of the blood supply to the prostate using tiny synthetic beads, causing the troublesome tissue to shrink and die. It's non-invasive alternative to surgery than can spare men the possible side-effects like fertility complications and impotence.

It's also a procedure that Mayfair Diagnostics radiologists have been successfully performing in Calgary hospitals since 2012. To learn more about the recommendation read the BBC news article, or learn more about how the procedure works in our article, Prostate Surgery: Is There an Alternative to TURP?
