Musculoskeletal Ultrasound

In Calgary and Regina, our sonographers have specialized training to perform musculoskeletal (MSK) ultrasounds which assess the tendons and ligaments that hold the muscles and bones in alignment. This ultrasound also evaluates the joint spaces for fluid or inflammation that may limit joint movement. If an injury to your tendon or muscle is suspected, we can see if it’s intact or torn. MSK ultrasound can help determine the extent of the injury, sometimes clarify if surgery is indicated, and assess how well these injuries are healing.

For more information on the benefits of MSK ultrasound, read our article:

Some MSK exams require an X-ray of the area of concern prior to the ultrasound. This allows the radiologist to correlate the soft tissue findings of the ultrasound with the bones of the joint being examined.

Our Technology

The Logiq EP ultrasound system from GE is a powerful and versatile imaging sytem that delivers extraordinary image quality for a variety of body types. Using a transducer, it produces sound waves and collects the echoes back from the body, which the computer then interprets as images. This system can also visualize blood flow.
