Completion of a recognized program in Medical Radiation Technology or Sonography; registration with the Alberta College of Medical Diagnostic and Therapeutic Technologists (ACMDTT) or relevant professional body.
Some roles require or prefer specialization (e.g. MRI, CT, Mammography, Vascular, MSK). Others allow on-the-job training or cross-training.
Clinics may require shift work including evenings or weekends; hospitals may include on-call duties. Work can be physically demanding, involving lifting and positioning patients, being on your feet much of the time.
Depending on modality, specialization, experience: about CAD $35-$55/hr or higher for specialized or high demand modalities.
Strict adherence to radiation safety / ALARA principles; infection control; credentialing and continuing competency; professional practice standards.
Yes — to maintain licensure, stay updated with new imaging modality advances, possibly cross-training, attending conferences, gaining specialty certification.
