Image-Guided Pain Therapy

Using X-ray and ultrasound, Mayfair doctors in Calgary can help treat chronic pain by precisely injecting medication through a small needle, or performing treatment on soft tissues. Called image-guided pain therapy, these procedures can help manage your pain with little risk and often providing pain relief right away.

These procedures are commonly used to treat pain in joints like ankles, elbows, hips, knees, lumbar spine, shoulders, thumbs, and wrists. You may benefit from injections if you have:

  • Arthritis or persistent joint pain
  • Soft tissue inflammation or pain
  • Bakers cyst
  • Joint or soft tissue injuries
  • Nerve pain

The OEC 9900 Elite C-arm from GE is an X-ray machine used by the radiologist to help identify the area to be treated. It has fluoroscopic and radiographic capabilities which help guide the radiologist during the exam, at a very low radiation dose. It is also able to pivot to capture the optimal angle, minimizing the need for repeated exposures.
