According to the Canadian Cancer Society, one in eight Canadian women will develop breast cancer in their lifetime. In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Mayfair Diagnostics is dedicated to educating women about the importance of taking charge of their breast health.
“A screening mammogram is an empowering fifteen-minute step towards protecting a woman’s health”, says Dr. Sebastian Chlebek, Executive Chair of Mayfair Diagnostics. “Mammograms help detect breast cancer in its earliest, most treatable form.”
Mayfair’s state-of-the art mammography system, the GE Senographe Pristina, allows patients to assist with compression providing greater comfort during the exam. Mammograms are the gold standard for detecting breast cancer early and should start at age 40 and continue regularly every one to two years depending on risk factors. In many cases, women can book annual or biennial screening mammograms directly through Mayfair without requiring a doctor’s referral, provided certain criteria are met.
Throughout October, Mayfair has actively participated in community events across Alberta and Saskatchewan to spread the message that early detection saves lives.
At the start of the month, Mayfair was the presenting sponsor for Cavalry FC’s “Pink Out!” event in support of Wellspring Alberta. From October 4-6, we sponsored the Canada Women’s Expo, where our team was onsite to discuss breast health with attendees. On October 6, we sponsored the Canadian Cancer Society’s CIBC Run for the Cure in Regina, Saskatchewan, with a team participating in the run and an onsite booth. On October 12, Mayfair was the presenting sponsor of the Calgary Stampeders’ PinkPower game, which raised awareness about breast health and the importance of early detection.
Looking ahead, Mayfair will continue raising awareness about the importance of early cancer detection at the Calgary Wranglers’ Hockey Fights Cancer game on November 9 and the Calgary Flames’ Hockey Fights Cancer game on November 21.
