WHAT HAPPENS DURING A CT LUNG SCAN?

Computed tomography (CT) uses X-rays and computer technology to produce comprehensive images of your lungs. This exam can provide a much more detailed picture than regular X-rays and can identify many conditions that may escape detection on other imaging tests.

Your health care practitioner may order a CT lung scan to look for:

  • Blocked blood flow in the lung (pulmonary embolism)
  • Lung cancer
  • Other lung problems
  • Signs of infection
