Home WHAT IS BONE DENSITY SCREENING?
Bone mineral densitometry (BMD) helps determine your risk of fractures or osteoporosis. This exam uses a low-dose X-ray to measure your bone mineral count, which helps you and your doctor decide if lifestyle changes are needed to slow bone loss.
A first (baseline) BMD exam is often taken around age 50 for both men and women, then subsequent exams are recommended every two years. These exams are offered at 13 locations in Calgary and our Cochrane clinic.
