Home MAYFAIR DIAGNOSTICS SUNRIDGE PLAZA ADDS NEW SERVICES
Mayfair Diagnostics is pleased to announce that we have expanded our services at Mayfair Diagnostics Sunridge Plaza. Our clinic now offers bone density and breast imaging, in addition to specialized vascular ultrasound, general ultrasound, and X-ray services.
Located in unit 150 at 3363 – 26th Avenue NE, Sunridge Plaza is across from the Peter Lougheed Centre, beside the Best Buy, and between Dental Care for Children and the Five Guys restaurant.
Mayfair Diagnostics Sunridge Plaza opened in October 2021, offering walk-in X-ray and general ultrasound services. It’s also home to the Mayfair Diagnostics Vascular Lab, which offers sub-specialized, multidisciplinary diagnostic imaging that is non-invasive to care for our patients’ vascular needs.
Having our Vascular Lab at our Sunridge Plaza clinic allows us to better serve our patients and referring specialist physicians. It’s especially ideal for vascular surgery patients who receive coordinated vascular interventional care and often have same-day clinical appointments at the Peter Lougheed Centre, especially for patients coming from out of town.
Our Sunridge Plaza clinic is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday to Friday. You will need an imaging requisition from your health care practitioner for all exams. Walk-in X-ray patients don’t require an appointment. Other exams can be booked at the clinic, through our online appointment request option, or by calling our central booking number at 403-777-3000.
Mayfair Diagnostics Sunridge Plaza added these new services to better service local patients. Convenience is an important factor in helping ensure patients can access the medical services they need, when they need them. This is especially true for medical imaging services like mammograms or bone density exams which work best when they are performed at regular intervals.
Bone mineral densitometry (BMD) is a low-dose X-ray exam that measures bone density to determine the risk of fractures or osteoporosis. This exam is often first ordered at around age 50 and then subsequent exams may be recommended every two years. Since measurements can vary between machines, repeat tests must be taken on the same machine, or a new baseline will be needed. Having a local clinic that offers this service will make it easier for patients to regularly check their risk for fractures.
Mammography uses specialized X-ray technology to take a series of images (mammograms) of the breasts and provide a detailed look at the internal structure of breast tissue. The best way to detect breast cancer early, when it’s most treatable, is through regular screening mammograms. Your Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan covers yearly mammograms starting at age 40. Having regular mammograms allows a radiologist to compare your images from year to year, identifying changes that may be occurring in the breast over time.
Mayfair’s mammography services in Sunridge Plaza use the latest technology – the GE Senographe Pristina Dueta mammography system, which is designed to increase patient comfort and reduce anxiety. With Pristina the patient is offered the option to use a handheld remote control, called patient-assisted compression. Under the guidance of the technologist, you are able to adjust the level of compression. This allows you to play a more active role in determining the best level of breast compression, making for a positive mammogram experience. A positive experience, along with local convenience, ensures you are more likely to return for regular screening, which is the most effective way to catch breast cancer early.
Ultrasound uses high frequency sound waves to examine the organs, tissues, and blood vessels of the body for abnormalities that could be associated with your symptoms or physical condition. Mayfair sonographers have received additional sub-specialty training to allow them to better perform a wide variety of ultrasound exams, including vascular ultrasound and a full range of imaging for expectant mothers through each stage of pregnancy.
Bone density and mammography exams take about 15 minutes. While ultrasound exams can range from 20 minutes to one hour depending on their complexity.
At Mayfair Diagnostics Sunridge Plaza, all our services are covered under your Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan and must be requested by a health care practitioner. To determine whether it is appropriate for you, your doctor will often review your medical and family history, risk factors, how long symptoms have been present, and how they affect daily activities. If this exam is indicated as a best next course of action, your doctor will provide you with a requisition and the appointment can be booked. X-ray services are walk-in and don’t usually require an appointment.
Please note that every vascular ultrasound referral is triaged by our vascular team to ensure the most appropriate testing is performed for optimal patient care. When we receive your vascular ultrasound requisition Mayfair Diagnostics will contact you to schedule your exam and provide you with detailed information to prepare for it.
Our experienced vascular team includes sub-specialized vascular interventional radiologists, registered vascular technologists, and an accredited clinical vascular scientist with an MSc in vascular imaging who is also the Sunridge clinic manager. This team ensures that our patients receive expert imaging that is appropriate for their medical history, and quality reports that help ensure an accurate diagnosis.
Once your exam is completed, your images will be reviewed by a specialized radiologist who will compile a report that is sent to your doctor.
Mayfair Diagnostics Sunridge is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday to Friday. Parking is free and is located near the front entrance of the clinic, within the plaza.
